This is a frequently asked question we get asked especially at this time of year.

NO. You should avoid tanning, whether it’s from the sun or fake tanning (including sunbeds and artificial tanning products), while you’re having laser hair removal treatments. Because tanning darkens the skin, this makes it harder for the laser to distinguish between the pigment in skin and the pigment in your hair, thus increasing the risk of burning and hyperpigmentation, as well as making it more difficult to get the results you want.

Darker skin types can still be treated with laser (not suntanned) as in this case the colour of the skin is not superficial like when tanned. It is always best to come for a consultation prior treatment.

TIP: Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen daily – it is a good habit for your overall skin health.
